South Jersey Man, 24, Arrested In Fatal Atlantic City Shooting

A 24-year-old man from South Jersey has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Atlantic City, authorities said.

Oshshakkur Derrick of Somers Point is charged with felony murder, kidnapping, unlawful possession of a weapon, attempted robbery, robbery and attempted murder, ccording to Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner.

At 12:43 a.m. on Nov. 22, Atlantic City police received a 9-1-1 call about a man shot in a home in the 100 block of N. Pennsylvania Ave., Tyner said.

Police found Jose Ortiz, 36, of Egg Harbor Township suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Ortiz was taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center City Campus where he was pronounced dead, Tyner said.

An autopsy was completed and the cause of death was identified as a gunshot wound. The manner of death was identified as homicide.

This remains an ongoing investigation and cooperative investigation by the ACPO Major Crimes Unit, the Atlantic City Police Department and the Somers Point Police Department.
